State Of The Progressive Mess

January 28, 2010

“I’m not quitting”

obama-sotu-10What a state our union is in. What a mess. The economic downward spiral of the country continues with progressive job losses, progressive increases in unsustainable debt, progressive declines in home values, and a progressive devaluation of our currency. A progressive loss of confidence in the competency and integrity of our elected officials instills fear for the future. A progressive malaise spreads steadily across the nation.

America is visibly struggling and awaited, with cautious optimism, President Obama’s address to the nation last night. The president, it is was rumored, had heard the dispirited angry voices of the American people via opinion polls and the elections in NJ, VA and MA. Mr Obama was willing to admit that the progressive policies he had implemented had not worked as hoped and that perhaps a more centrist approach was in order.

Such rumors instantly spread outrage among the president’s “base”. The distant left thought they had voted in a Che Guevara, and ended up with a Harry Truman. OMSNBC talk hosts could be seen visibly struggling to hold in the word “traitor”.

Today, however, all is well on the leftist front. Ideology proved to be more important than common sense and prudence in Barack Obama’s State Of The Union Address. The president’s proposal for stabilizing the floundering ship of state? A progressive intake of water.

“I’m not quitting”
Far from having second thoughts on the complete lack of success of his policies, in any area, Barack Obama made it clear last night that he remains determined to continue taking “America in a new direction”, as he pledged during the 2008 campaign.

Though “voter beware” red flags were in abundance concerning the definition of that new direction, a complicit media suppressed or trivialized Barack Obama’s well documented history of socialist orientated speeches and his extensive associations with left wing radicals and ideologues. And candidate Obama’s virtually empty resume, qualifying him for little more than a tenured position at USC Berkley, was somehow actually promoted as an asset.

A crumbling economy, eight years of disappointing, mediocre leadership under George W Bush and a self imploding republican candidate in “Maverick” John McCain were enough to close the sale. America placed its hope and trust in the bright, inspiring young man who spoke so loftily about hope for the future and bringing America together.

newsweek-socialismAs our president, however, Barack Obama has inspired the country with little more than voters’ remorse. Confirming the worst fears of many, it quickly became clear that the “new direction” was intended to lead to a progressive, socialist restructuring of America.

Barack Obama’s record during his first year in office speaks for itself. The economy continues to decline with true unemployment approaching 18%. Government has encroached upon the private sector with partial nationalization of the banking system, two of the “big three” auto manufacturers and one of the country’s largest insurance companies. The concerted effort to initiate government control of America’s healthcare, one sixth of the nation’s economy, has provoked citizen outrage across the country. And forty some czars, political appointees who required no congressional confirmation and are answerable only to Barack Obama, are now employed by the White House to oversee virtually every aspect of our economy and society.

This is not the direction the majority of voters thought they would be traveling with Barack Obama. And they have made that clear to Washington. But that’s just plain tough America. Because Barack Obama intends to forge ahead in his progressive mission to reshape America. “I’m not quitting”

“Jobs Bill”
Consumed with the machinations of trying to implement the foundations of a socialist America, the Obama administration gave scarce attention to the country’s unemployment rate. In typical dilettante fashion, the president may have actually believed that the pork and earmark laden “stimulus bill” would revive hiring. Government intervention, Mr Obama had always been told, is always the answer. The more experienced members of congress surely knew better, but who’s going to turn down a multi-billion dollar earmark party?

In the aftermath of the MA senate election debacle, and with the country bordering on civil unrest, the president has suddenly decided that “jobs” are his top priority. And he has the answer. A “Jobs Bill”. Which is another stimulus bill. If it don’t first succeed…

Stimulus II might not put many people back to work, but it kept a lot of happy democratic members of congress on their feet and clapping last night.

The various business tax credits alluded to, should they actually come to be, would have minimal impact on job creation. Tax Rate Cuts have come to be Economics 101 in attempting to overcome any recession. It’s just that no progressive worth his salt can bring himself to mouth the words.

Progressive presidents will suffer no dissent
In other areas, Mr Obama made it clear that neither the opinion of the American people, economic realities, science or simple facts will be permitted to sidetrack his progressive reformation of the nation.

joe-wilson-liarSC Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, who had shouted out “You Lie” during President Obama’s address on healthcare last fall, must have been suffering silent apoplexy as the president asserted that no one in congress had ever offered a viable alternative to his plan to disassemble the country’s healthcare infrastructure and push America down the road to socialized medicine.

The problem of cost/access could have easily been addressed within the scope of the current healthcare system, which 85% of Americans are generally happy with. If improving healthcare in America were the real intention, fifty pages of straight forward legislation drafted quickly, cleanly and out in the open could have done it.

But political control of the citizenry’s access to medical care is a progressive ideal. And despite the fact that the vast of majority of the country opposes Obamacare in any form, the president reasserted his determination to push the legislation through congress. One way or the other. The rewards are too great.

Undaunted by the recent revelations that have reduced “global warming” to a world wide joke, the president stated that he still intends to press ahead with Cap And Trade. This “climate legislation” will enable government to control energy in America by means of punitive taxes on consumption. Such taxes would clearly be detrimental to an already suffering economy. But the progressive movement has worked for two decades to acquire international control over the world’s economies through climate treaties and they now have a man in the White House leading the way.

State of the resistance
In short, the struggle for state of our union will continue in 2010 much as it did last year. Only with greater intensity.

Upon assuming office, Barack Obama took the American people’s blind support for granted. He misconstrued the people’s willingness to place their trust in him for gullibility. He has clearly been taken aback by the nation’s determined resistance to the progressive new direction in which he wishes to take the country. Electoral calamity looms ahead in November and, as he sees it, time is of the essence.

The congress and the country were put on notice last night that, if necessary, President Barack Obama is clearly prepared to run roughshod over the constitution and 200 years of democratic institutions in order to begin transforming America into the two tiered socialist society he has envisioned since his first days as a community organizer.

That’s progressive.
