The feminist takeover of the Girl Scouts seems firmly entrenched
It’s Girl Scout Cookie season and those green boxes, filled with those fantastic cookies many of us have gorged on for decades, and the beautiful, heartfelt faces of the little ladies hawking them, are virtually impossible to resist. But donor beware. The money donated for those delectable cookies is not being used as it in previous years.
This time last year we detailed the liberal feminist takeover of the once venerable GSA in The Progressive Girl Scouts Of America. Regretting turning down the eager faces standing in front of the supermarkets (and missing the cookies) we decided to update last year’s post hoping for a change for the better.
Sorry cookie lovers. And even more sorry for America’s daughters.
There was a time. An extended period in our history when two organizations exemplified the idealism, enthusiasm and patriotism of America’s children. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. Parents who wanted to keep their kids away from the “wrong crowd”, out of street gangs, and later on away from drugs, got them into Scouting at an early age. Starting off in the Cub Scouts and Brownies, Scouting promoted the values of God and country.
Adult Scout Troop Leaders were dedicated to promoting those values and were generally chosen from the “pillars of the community”. Scout Leaders were typically dads and moms who served as exemplary role models for the young lives they would help shape. Under such leadership, boys and girls involved in scouting had a positive head start in life, which resulted in higher high school graduation rates and more advancements to college than non-scouts.
Scouting, dare we say it, was wholesome.
The new millennium is a far different time. America has been reshaped, to an alarmingly high degree, by a minority coalition of anti-American liberals/progressives dedicated to removing any mention of God from the public square and reshaping America’s children in their own, bitter, twisted image.
For at least a decade, the Boy Scouts Of America have been savagely pilloried by virtually every fringe group that makes up the distant left. Boy Scouts have been personally labeled as bigots, haters and “un-American”. Scout Troops have been defunded by sponsors and chased from public schools, community centers and even some churches.
The left’s justifications for these rabid assaults are the Boy Scouts refusal to permit homosexuals to serve as troop leaders, the inclusion of the word God in the Boy Scout Pledge and the Boy Scout’s emphasis on patriotism. A different time indeed.
Have you ever wondered why the Girl Scouts Of America, the mirror image of the Boy Scouts, have remained so conspicuously unmaligned? Well Catholic mom, blogger and Girl Scout Cookie addict Jennifer Hartline did. And her research into today’s Girl Scouts led her to publish an article on Catholic Online reluctantly titled Why I Will No Longer Support The Girl Scouts. Here are a few of Jennifer’s observations, but the entire article is a must read to understand the scope of liberal/progressive influence being applied to America’s daughters.
The Girl Scouts are on new “Journeys”
“I believe it’s time to make a painful break for the sake of our daughter. What I’ve learned over the last year tells me that the Girl Scouts organization has taken a very liberal feminist and pro-homosexual turn, and more disturbing, a sharp turn away from acknowledging God.”
“At the 2008 Girl Scout National Council Session and Convention, the traditional flag ceremony was trashed, as was the playing of our National Anthem. Flags of all nations were brought in bunched together to Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire tunes.”
In viewing a GSA curriculum on the Girl Scout website titled “Journeys” Jennifer wrote “I’m left with the distinct impression I’ve just joined a Zen-yoga, environmental, defeat global warming, free choice, girl-power, modern feminist think-tank. There’s lots of talk about “women’s issues”, environmental issues, empowerment, and the new “globalism”, but no mention of God and very little of country”.
One Elizabeth Gurley Flynn is listed on the GSA website as a “Voice For Good”- a role model. Jennifer learned that Ms Flynn had been chairwoman of the American Communist Party during the 1930s and was also a founding member of the ACLU.
A quick look at Wikipedia also informed us that role model Elizabeth Gurley Flynn spent two years in prison for advocating the overthrow of the US government by force and violence.
Any mom whose Girl Scout daughter seems particularly inspired by Ms Flynn may want to consider checking daughter’s backpack for plastic explosives.
Update February 2011
We’ve reviewed the GSA website and found no changes in the Girl Scouts now liberal progressive orientation. Indeed, the Huffington Post has done numerous fluff pieces on the GSA, one referring to today’s Girl Scouts as a “welcoming progressive organization”.
And last year at a Girl Scout’s sponsored UN Status Of Women panel, attended by thousands of GS members, Planned Parenthood was allowed to distribute their Healthy, Happy And Hot guide on teenage “sexual rights”, which focused on the “right” of people infected with HIV to enjoy a full sex life without feeling obligated to inform partners of their HIV status.
Things change and the once venerable Girls Scouts of America is perhaps the ultimate example of how the distant left is succeeding in turning America upside down. They don’t really care or worry much about anyone over 30 who oppose them. They’re after our children. Make sure you know the people who are shaping your children’s views when they are out of your sight. And make sure you know who and what they are raising money for.

This is awesome news!! I thought the girl scouts were a bunch of GOP flag waving retards!! Now I am going to look into them for “progressive training” for my daughter. Thanks for the article.

Not so fast regarding redirection of funds to boy scouts. Have you checked out the labor merit badge which is PRO-LABOR. Both groups have been taken a progressive path. Many leaders I talk with are not aware of this fact
