Wanna’ Stop Obamacare?
Republican Steve Brown is on the verge of capturing Ted Kennedy’s senate seat
In a recent article on our Radiant Cross Right To Life blog, Abortion Incorporated 2010, we made clear that the only way to “stop the abortion mandate”, which is certain to be incorporated into whatever form of Obamacare passes, is to defeat the healthcare bill itself.
Abortion aside, the bill will do nothing to improve, or lower the cost of, healthcare in America. Obamacare is clearly intended to initiate a government take over of our medical care via the imposition of taxes, mandates, penalties and new bureaucracies. And, as the result of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars used to bribe the necessary votes for passage in congress, there seems to be little hope in stopping it.
We concluded the article by exhorting one and all to continue to rain down letters, e-mails and phone calls on Capitol Hill, and to remember the power of faith offered in the Words Of Our Lord found in Mark 11:22-23:
“Have faith in God. I assure you: If anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him”.
And now, seemingly right out of the God works in mysterious ways category, there is indeed a clear ray of hope piercing the dark clouds of Obamacare hovering over the nation. Massachusetts Republican State Senator Scott Brown is suddenly on the verge of capturing Ted Kennedy’s former senate seat.
Kennedy’s long term senior aide, Paul Kirk, has been holding the seat on an interim basis and faithfully following the party line. Brown is an adamant opponent of the pending healthcare legislation and so the significance of his potential victory in the January 19 election could not be greater- the loss of the 60th “healthcare reform” vote in the senate.
Scott Brown’s opponent is Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley. Martha Cloakley is a hard core progressive right out of the Ted Kennedy mold. Ms Coakley, President Obama and the democratic leadership had considered the election a mere formality from the get go. Liberal stronghold Massachusetts, the Kennedy seat, what was to worry about? Coakley didn’t even bother launching any campaign to speak of, not even a television ad.
Complacency, however, has proved to be a poor campaign strategy. Coakley & Co failed go gasp the significance of the H factor. Healthcare. During the month since the Dec 8 primary, as Sen Majority Leader Harry Reid blatantly brought senate votes to pass healthcare legislation overwhelmingly opposed by the American people, Scott Brown has closed an initial 30 point gap to a statistical tie, despite Coakley’s 5 - 1 fundraising advantage.
And, of course, beyond the obvious threat to Obamacare, a republican upset in Massachusetts is going to get the attention of every democratic senator up for reelection in November. A Scott Brown win could stop President Obama’s socialist steamroller dead in its tracks. This is that important.
The distant left is in panic, bringing in every progressive icon in the country to try and push Coakley across the finish line. MoveOn.org is raising every last nickel and dime it can. So log onto Scott Brown’s campaign site by clicking on one of his campaign posters in this article, or go to http://www.brownforussenate.com/, and donate now. No donation is too small, as the Obama campaign proved in 2008.
This is the opportunity we have been praying for. Thank you Lord. We’ll give it all we’ve got.
Excerpts from the Steve Brown For Senate website
I” believe that all Americans deserve health care coverage, but I am opposed to the health care legislation that is under consideration in Congress and will vote against it.”
“I am a free enterprise advocate who believes that lower taxes can encourage economic growth. Raising taxes stifles growth, weakens the economy and puts more people out of work. I have been a fiscal watchdog in the state legislature fighting bigger government, higher taxes and wasteful spending.”
“I oppose a national cap and trade program because of the higher costs that families and businesses would incur.”
“I oppose amnesty, and I believe we ought to strengthen our border enforcement and institute an employment verification system with penalties for companies that hire illegal immigrants.”
“While this decision should ultimately be made by the woman in consultation with her doctor, I believe government has the responsibility to regulate in this area and I support parental consent and notification requirements and I oppose partial birth abortion.” (This would be a major improvement over Kennedy or Coakley)
“I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. States should be free to make their own laws in this area, so long as they reflect the people’s will as expressed through them directly, or as expressed through their elected representatives.”
