The Pope Takes Nancy Pelosi To School

And it’s time to bring out that “big ruler”

Speaker Of The House Nancy Pelosi left her meeting with Pope Benedict XVI yesterday smiling through the egg on her face. Having hoped to engineer a photo-op with the Pontiff, which she could misrepresent as Papal approval of her hard core pro-abortion positions, the speaker instead found herself curtly dressed down and dismissed without even a cellphone shot to bandy about.

Anticipating Pelosi’s intentions, Vatican officials took the almost unprecedented step of prohibiting photographs of the meeting. The audience was also noticeably brief, as the Pope minimized diplomacy and got right to the point of reaffirming every Catholic’s duty to protect the unborn- especially Catholic legislators and members of the judiciary.

Per the Vatican’s statement, “His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoins all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development.”

After being shown the door however, Abortion Incorporated’s honorary “Catholic Chaplin” described the meeting as one in which she was gracious enough bestow a few kind words of encouragement upon the Pope: “I had the opportunity to praise the Church’s leadership in fighting poverty, hunger and global warming.” Yeah, keep up the good work Ben.

No one brought this ridiculous attempt to spin the encounter. But the overlooked point of Pelosi’s statement is that “ardently Catholic” Nancy Pelosi could care less what the Pope, or the official Catechism of the Catholic Church, have to say about a pre-born child’s right to life. The words of admonition from the Vicar of Christ went right through Ms Pelosi, never coming close to reaching her hardened heart. For all public purposes, she had never heard them.

The transparent cop out of pro-abortion Catholic legislators like Ms Pelosi is “responsibility to their constituents.” Oh really. Over 70% of Americans oppose the barbaric procedure of partial birth abortion. And the majority of pro-choice voters favor reasonable restrictions on access to abortion, especially for minors. Yet Ms Pelosi, and other Catholics, are leading the fight to pass the Freedom Of Choice Act which will restore partial birth abortion and rescind all existing federal and state restrictions on abortion. For that matter, speaker Pelosi’s office was flooded with opposition to the various pork and earmark laden stimulus bills and bailouts, yet she rammed every one through the House with pride. So much for those know-nothing constituents.

And pro-abortion Catholic politicians like Pelosi, Joe Biden and John Kerry, are wealthy people. If they were “personally opposed to abortion”, as the song goes, they could maintain faith with their consciences, and their church, by walking away from politics without a care in the world.

But for people like Pelosi, Biden and Kerry, it is all about power. Nancy Pelosi’s whole hearted support for completely unrestricted abortion keeps the millions of dollars in campaign contributions and votes pouring in from Abortion Incorporated. The business of abortion in America, which is responsible for the heinous murders of 50 million children in their mother’s wombs, is nothing more to House Speaker Pelosi than a practical matter of maintaining her position in Washington.

So Pope or no Pope, “ardent Catholic” Nancy will continue to smile and ignore the Catholic Church’s abundantly clear stance on abortion. She will continue to openly distort the Church’s Catechism in order to mislead and corrupt other Catholics, especially concerning the “Freedom Of Choice Act”.

Nancy Pelosi, and other “Catholic” elected officials like her, will continue to slap the Catholic Church in face. And, as pointed out in Where Is The Catholic Church?, with the dire threat of the FOCA looming over America’s unborn, it’s time for the Catholic Church to stop turning the other cheek.
