“Pro-life” Charlie Crist does not want “to impose my will on others”
Small wonder Florida Governor Charlie Crist finds himself a politician without a party. A man lacking principles, convictions and integrity rarely has much of a crowd around him.
Well known as a flip-flopper and double talker, Crist exemplifies the bottom of the barrel politician who muddles his/her position on abortion in hopes of deceiving voters on both sides of the issue. The types are well known. Democrats who are ” pro-choice, but not pro-abortion.” Political flim flam. Voting for legislation that enables abortion is, of course, supporting abortion.
Even lower down the ladder however, are politicians like Charlie Crist who talk the pro-life talk in election years and then promptly walk the other way the following January. And the excuse is always the same. The Noble Cop Out. “I do not want to impose my will on others”.
Running for the US Senate in 1998, candidate Crist declared “I am pro-choice, but not pro-abortion. I believe that a woman has the right to choose”. In 2006, republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist had apparently seen the light on the evils and injustice of abortion, pledging “I’m pro-life. I don’t know how else to say it.”
Florida’s pro-life community took Crist at his word and helped elect him Governor. And now Charlie Crist is walking the other way.
The Florida legislator is forcing pro-life Charlie to put his pen where his mouth was. Lawmakers are forwarding Crist a bill which will test the validity of his pro-life bona fides on two fronts. HB 1143 first overrides the abortion funding mandates foisted on the country by Obamacare. The legislation prohibits health insurance providers from covering abortions in any plan receiving federal or state taxpayer funding. Three states have already enacted similar laws and several others, like Florida, have legislation pending.
Secondly, the bill requires abortion providers to offer women seeking abortions the opportunity to view ultrasound images of their unborn children, and to provide a “description of the fetus, including a description of the various stages of development.” As we outlined in The Resurgence Of America’s Conscience, legislation requiring abortion clinics to provide women with Full And Honest Disclosure on fetal development and the risks inherent in abortion procedures are sweeping the country.
Common sense, common decency, pro-life legislation. Legislation which actually has proven to “reduce the number of abortions in America”.
The Noble Cop Out
But since leaving the republican party, pro-life Charlie has continually implied that he would veto the bill. But what about Crist’s stalwart campaign commitment to defend Florida’s unborn children? “Even though I’m pro-life I don’t want to impose my will on others.”
That phrase was not heard in Crist’s campaign. And Charlie’s high minded nobility will be of little consolation to the babies whose lives would have been spared by HB 1143. Or to the pro-life voters who placed their trust in Charlie Crist.
Asked on Friday if there were anything that would possibly induce him to reconsider, Crist indifferently replied “probably not a whole lot”.
How can such people face themselves in the mirror. Quite easily apparently. Shunned by the republican party, Independent Charlie’s new senate campaign website continues to mislead (that does mean “lie”, doesn’t it?).
Governor Crist believes strongly in the sanctity of life. While Attorney General, Charlie Crist worked with Governor Bush to successfully defend Florida’s Parental Notification law.
Ops, pro-life Charlie neglects to mention the fact that as Attorney General in 2005, Charlie opposed Gov Jeb Bush in the fight to keep Terri Schindler’s husband, Michael Schiavo, from having Terri dehydrated and starved to death. It was AG Crist, personally, who officially ended the state of Florida’s attempt to keep Terri alive.
We won’t publish the URL for Charlie’s new campaign site. Just something about him. Anyone interested can find it. Better yet, attend one of pro-life Charlie’s campaign events and get to know him personally.
Just make sure you know which face you’re talking to.
